The History of 988
In 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline transitioned to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline to better support people in crisis by providing an easy-to-remember dialing code that connects callers to their nearest crisis hotline center.
Calling, texting, or chatting with 988 will connect you with a trained crisis responder here in Maine.
